Before we go any further is a good idea if you know what search engines, how they work, and what the difference between search engines and Directories.
Search engine is a site that has a large database designed to index internet addresses. Readable information can include text, images, sounds, or video. To carry out this task, search engines have a special program which is usually called the spider, bot, or crawler. By the time you register a web address (URL), the search engine spiders will receive and analyze the URL. With certain procedures and processes, this spider web will decide whether you submitted acceptable or not. If feasible, spiders will add the URL address and read all of the content or existing content. Ranking of a web defined by a particular method in accordance with their respective standard search engines. So in general all the search engines have a program called Spider. And this is the actual program to determine whether your website can be accepted or not. Examples of some well-known search engines are: Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, All The Web, and MSN Search. Currently AltaVista and AllTheWeb was bought by Yahoo, so they can say one group and use the same database. Thus there are only 3 major players that you need to give special attention, namely Google, MSN Search, and Yahoo.
Unlike the directory to index web pages manually. Manual is meant is they use ordinary people to analyze each web page entry. Do not use spiders or crawlers as well as search engines. Directory advantage compared to the search engines are able to provide website listings are more qualified. But because of all the process was done manually using human editors, who owned the number of databases is usually much smaller than the search engines. The position of a current directory listing in addition to providing that can be viewed per category is to support the relevance of search results from search engines. Thus the ranking of a website in search engine listing is also influenced by the website in some major directories. Examples of some large directories very influential today are Yahoo Directory, Open Directory, and Looksmart.
